Tit For That

Nancy Pelosi said I should delay my next State of the Union address.
Sent her concerns in a letter to me (which she shared right away with the press).
In so many words – she just gave me the finger;
Thought she was putting my tit in the wringer.
What do you think that I did in return? Go ahead: I will give you one guess.

She and some other congressional types were about to take flight; first to Brussels,
Then to Afghanistan, visiting troops – so I stopped their trip, flexing my muscles.
Better to postpone this P.R. event;
Thought they were going, now can’t say they went.
Two can indulge in this game of one-upsmanship; that’s all-American hustle.

Failing to send me an invite to speak to the Congress I find rather petty.
I love to hear the applause in response – and this year, I’d arranged for confetti.
State of the Union has audience global;
She said, “Broadcast from your Office that’s Oval.”
That was a bold move – and I, in return, have announced we’ll no longer go steady.

Honestly, I could present this address from the White House – direct from my office;
Lay out the state of the nation and rally support from the base for my causes.
She said, “Security’s poor, due to shutdown.”
I replied, “Two can play this game,” and cut down
Her access to government aircraft – but go fly commercial, if that cuts your losses.

There’s tradition involved here, inviting the POTUS to come to the Congress and speak; it
Appears she’s decided to stiff-arm those plans, and so therefore I let slip her secret.
Off the rails further discussions already were;
She can be petty, but I can be petty-er.
Wisdom is called for – too bad neither one of us makes any effort to seek it.
